Depending on the feedstock used and the production process, Bio-LNG and Bio-CNG can deliver significant reductions in CO₂eq emissions throughout the fuel’s life cycle, making a valuable contribution to companies’ decarbonisation goals.
Key Differences Between LNG/Bio-LNG and CNG/Bio-CNG
Although they are based on the same energy source, these solutions differ in several operational aspects. LNG/Bio-LNG have a higher energy density, enabling vehicles to carry more fuel and achieve longer driving ranges. This makes them particularly suitable for heavy-duty vehicles operating over long distances and under demanding conditions. They are especially relevant for companies operating their own long-haul fleets or working with third-party transport providers. Furthermore, the use of Bio-LNG enables a substantial reduction in carbon emissions without compromising operational efficiency or vehicle payload capacity.
CNG/Bio-CNG, in contrast, require high-pressure storage systems and dedicated refuelling infrastructure to keep the gas compressed. Despite these requirements, they represent a strategic solution for urban bus fleets and waste collection vehicles, where their operational efficiency makes them particularly well suited to frequent stop-and-start routes.

While CNG/Bio-CNG provide an efficient solution for urban operations and local distribution services, LNG/Bio-LNG are the preferred option for long-haul heavy-duty transport thanks to their greater driving range.
